In Mark 13, Jesus describes a harsh portrait of the end of times. But what He really want us to remember from this passage is, while waiting for the end, we need to stay firm in our faith. How?
In verse 36, Jesus says : “do not let him find you sleeping”. The word “sleeping” comes from the Greek word “katheudo”, which means : “yield to sloth and sin”. In verse 37 Jesus says that we have to “watch”. This word is translated from the Greek word “gregoreuo” that means “staying active”.
So the best way to keep yourself out of sin is to stay active in your faith! Temptations will be less pronounced if you are busy serving Him. Reading the Bible or Christian books, listening to teachings or even going to your Sunday service is good. But it’s not enough to protect you from temptation since they are not serving!
Roll up your sleeves and give time to a ministry in your church. Offer your time, even if it’s not your favorite thing to do. If you are busy serving Him, you will be less tempted with sin!
No church is perfect and no ministry is either. Serving in a church is not always effortless. There will be people that criticize you, that frown on what you do. You might not like the people in charge or their structure, but if you consider the church as yours, serve it the best you can.
As a bonus, you will learn how to serve imperfect people, which will prepare you to serve your imperfect spouse, and the church is a great place to improve your skills!
