Just because online dating is not a sin, doesn’t mean that you should subscribe to every dating websites you can find. None of them are perfect, however, some are completely unsuitable for Christians.
We won’t give you any specific websites to go on because we want to stay objective and not be paid to advertise for any site. But we will give you some guidelines to help you find the right one for you.
There are dating sites for all kind of people, even for fans of skiing! So first, make sure you go on a site for fans of Christ. You won’t find any Christians, that are following God, on a site that openly promotes sex and short term flings.
All it takes is a little research to find out if you should go on the site or not. For example, find out who owns it. We did some research on one of these so-called Christian websites, and after three clicks, we discovered it was owned by… Penthouse! The company that owns the site will tell you a lot about the core values of the site.
The comments of users can be very insightful too. To find those, type the name of the site into a search engine, and add interesting words such as sex, scam, refund, etc. This will bring up results from people that have already been on the site. You won’t find this information on the dating site itself, it will be posted on other forums or message boards.
In your searches, you will quickly notice that the word “Christian” means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. When filling in the information for your profile, you might even see that you can select by denomination. If you don’t want to change denominations, just don’t message those that are not from your denomination! Just because you subscribed to a site, doesn’t mean you have to accept all the matches they give you!
Some other sites are not labeled as Christian orientated, but still match people according to their faith or beliefs. These kinds of websites do personality tests to find you a match. Like any other site, the results won’t be perfect, and you will need to filter the matches they find you to make sure that you share the same faith of your matches.
After all your research, you could find a site that is owned by a Christian ministry, and still find subscribers that are not following God. Users with names like slut6969 don’t give a good reputation to a “Christian” website, but it’s not entirely the fault of the site. They will do their best to offer a Christ oriented site, but people will do as they want. It’s simply up to you to refuse any contact with those kinds of users and report those abusive users to the owners of the website.
There is not a single website that is perfect and will only give you perfect matches, because, behind those computers, there are imperfect people. Choose a website that supports the Christian faith, and use your best judgment. God created you with intelligence, use it.
