Some single people are so concerned with finding a partner that they get distracted during teachings in church. They hear what their pastors teach, but they don’t listen, which is unfortunate because the fruits of the Spirit are directly related to the way we listen.
We have often heard that we must be careful about what we say because our words are creative. If we speak negatively, negative things will happen. We have also heard to be careful on what we meditate on, to keep our thoughts pure and full of faith.
Jesus goes even further. He said in Mark 4:24 … be careful to what we hear. Or rather, to pay attention to “how” we listen. The degree of attention that we give the Word will determine the degree of what we receive from the Word. The Amplified version translates the same verse in a clear way. “And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.”
Now with this idea in mind, verse 25 becomes very clear. We could interpret it: “For more revelations will be given to the one that is listening carefully to the Word, but whoever does not listen carefully, even the little revelations he has will be taken away.” It’s a verse that comes almost immediately after the parable of the sower. Only the earth that was free of distractions will produce fruit.
Perhaps it`s time to give more attention to the Word.
