For some singles, the holiday season is a bit gloomy, especially when they walk under the mistletoe! Do you need ideas to appreciate this beautiful moment of the year, without a partner? Passion374 offers you a few here.
- Make the choice of being in a good mood
In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul describes what love is. Nowhere does he mention that love is a beautiful feeling that gives butterflies? On the contrary, each item he presents are choices, positions to be taken which are not always easy. Happiness, like love, is not a feeling: it is a choice. One chooses to love, and one chooses to be in a good mood. “They looked to him, and were radiant. Their faces shall never be covered with shame.” (Psalms 34.5 WEB) Meditate on the blessings of God, and not what you don’t have yet. It’s your choice, and you know, being in a good mood is also much more attractive!
- Serve your family
Instead of being alone in your corner, be active during festive dinners. Help out, pick up the dishes, organize games. Give a mother a break by playing with her children. By sowing joy, you will harvest it in return.
- Fill in your calendar
Do not stay home watching holiday movies, especially those romantic movies! Spend an evening decorating a friend’s home, volunteer at an organization or your church. For example, helping with the distribution of Christmas baskets. Bring your nephew to see Santa Claus at the mall or bake cookies with friends. Occupy your time!
- Take care of yourself
As we said in another article, when we are exhausted, we have a greater risk of becoming discouraged. So take these few days of vacation to rest, take a long hot bath, cook a good meal and especially, have a good time with Jesus. Relax, eat and enjoy in the Presence of God: better than any treatment in a spa!
- The big cleanup
Well, for some, doing housework is even more depressing than being alone! If this is your case, go for another suggestion! For those of you who like a clean house, it’s time to clean your pantry, empty your drawers, give away what you no longer wear, and so on. You will start the year with a breath of fresh air! Also clean up your computer files, photos, and contacts in your phone, your papers, and invoices. Taking the time to clean your “thoughts” might also be a good idea, as you prepare your goals for the coming year.
- Without a family? Adopt one!
Some singles do not have a family to spend time with for Christmas. That’s no reason to be alone! You will more than likely receive an invitation to spend the holidays with a friend’s family. Go there without shame! If you do not receive an invitation: go on a trip! The “all-inclusive” have all kinds of activities to entertain you! Treat yourself!
