When we remain single for a time, we start to doubt our appearance. Yet we have every reason to celebrate God’s magnificent work. This is one of the secrets of being self-confident.
“I’m beautiful!” Perhaps this is one of the most difficult things for most people to say today. We are continually bombarded with images and messages telling us what is beautiful and what is not (according to criteria that are far from objective). So we compare ourselves and find something that we want to change. We can be very hard on ourselves. A little self-criticism can be positive. We need it to motivate ourselves forward. But most of the time, the criticism is not constructive. In fact, what we say about ourselves can be rather destructive.
God does not want us to be harsh on ourselves. He created us, and when we criticize our appearance, our distinctiveness, it is a criticising His work to Him. On the other hand, when we recognize the talent that our Creator has displayed while forming us, we are complimenting Him. “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well” (Psalms 139.14 NASB). This gives us a good reason to start celebrating our beauty and value.
Another reason to see ourselves as beautiful is that our words, like the ones of our Father, are creative. When we begin to find ourselves beautiful, as we declare it, it increases our confidence. And self-confidence is what’s more beautiful in a person. Besides, we do not take care of what we do not value. For example, if we have beautiful eyes, we will work to highlight them with our choice of color in our clothing, nice makeup or simply smiling more.
When we wear new clothes, we all walk with a little more confidence than usual. Sometimes we wait for compliments and are waiting to talk about our purchases. It is this attitude that we should always keep. To be proud that we have been created by God himself! When a couple starts dating, the man gives a lot of compliments to his girlfriend, and the woman seems to bloom every day. Often people can guess that we are in love just from our constant smile and great looks.
But we can shine every day, even single because God always has compliments to give us. Go shopping with the Holy Spirit, asking Him to guide you to the piece of clothing that suits you best. Look at yourself with God’s eyes, you will love yourself and find yourself cute, just as a father is proud of his children and always finds them beautiful. “The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy” (Zephaniah 3.17 NASB). We are not talking about falling into the other extreme and becoming proud and narcissistic. As long as we give glory to God for His work, we will remain humble.
God has given us only one body for this pilgrimage on Earth. We must not make it an idol and spend more time refining it than we spend advancing His Kingdom. But we must take care of it enough to keep it for a long time and in the best possible condition. We are good witnesses when we show gratitude and respect for what God has given us. When we demonstrate that we know how to take care of ourselves, it also transmits a message to a potential match that we will also take care of them. “ Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 19.19 NASB).
Children have no problem with this exercise. They look at themselves in the mirror and they naturally think they are beautiful, despite their imperfections. It may be time to return to the childlike joy of life.
