Faith is not optional, it is essential. God honors our faith by doing miracles. Although He reveals himself to all, it is not those who doubt, but those who have deep faith who will see the most miracles.
When we consider the story of Jesus in His hometown, we understand that He did not do many miracles because of their lack of faith (Mark 6:1-6). Perhaps it is because Jesus Himself does not give pearls to swine (Matthew 7:6). This may sound harsh, but it makes perfect sense. What makes us pleasing to God (Hebrews 11:6) and what saves us (Philippians 2:13) is our faith.
Although we interact with dozens of people every day, we do not share with them what is most precious to us. No, we keep these things for our close friends. The same goes for God. He entrusts to His friends, and we are (John 15:15), to be witnesses of His finest miracles.
If we want to see God work miracles in our lives and the lives of those around us, we will have to nurture our faith in Him. Indeed, it is not enough for us to be saved to be intimate with the Lord. Friendship is nourished and continues to grow. There are friends with more or less sincere interests, like the crowd who followed Jesus because of the bread He had given them (John 6:26). Sometimes we are like that with God. We follow Him because we want to receive the answer to a prayer, a personalized little miracle wrapped up in our selfishness. There are also sincere friends, those who become attached to Jesus even when they do not understand Him (John 6:67-68). It is to this kind of friendship that the Lord calls us to. God calls us to follow Him not for the bread He gives, but for the bread He is! (John 6:35)
Many Christian singles turn out to be unfaithful friends of the Lord when they do not understand why God does not give them a Christian spouse when they want. So they stop following Jesus, for a moment or permanently, and choose an unbeliever as a spouse or one below what God wants for them. In doing so, they voluntarily deprive themselves of seeing God miraculously at work in their situation. Let’s not forget that God promised that waiting in faith would not be a waste (Habacuc 2:1-3, Joël 2:25-26)! It is part of the normal path of any Christian. Some wait for marriage, others for a child, the salvation of a loved one, or a favorable economic situation, etc. We all somehow await the miraculous action of God our Savior in our lives.
If however, we have a deep intimacy with God while waiting for our miracle, we will see the greatest miracles happen in us and all around us. Our inner world will be transformed to desire only Him and Him alone. It will be the miracle of foiled egocentricity. We will want to live to adore Him and lead all those around us to know Him too. It will be the miracle of abandoned selfishness. We will move forward with joy and boldness before the challenges of this life. It will be the miracle of a renewed character.
And let’s admit it, this list of miracles is not exhaustive. There are inner miracles and all kinds of other miracles such as healings, people who are saved and much more. The arrival of a spouse who honors God is also one of the miracles from which many single people who aspire to marry benefit. To be at the forefront of what God does, you need to be intimate with Him to know how to recognize what He is the author of. Our faith is not optional, it is essential and God uses it to bless us and to work miracles. Our lives will be strewn with miracles if we believe (John 11:40). So let’s nourish our faith and thus walk towards the miracles!
