There are days when we feel ugly or ashamed that we made the same mistake again. We sometimes have the impression that God is disappointed or even disgusted with us. However, the reality is quite different!
Do we realize that the Lord takes pleasure in us? We are wonderfully made in His image, and He loves to watch us as we grow in our faith. He is not sitting on a high mountain staring at us, waiting for us to do something wrong. It is the image that other gods have, like those in Greek mythology, but our Heavenly Father loves us very much. So we can go through our day with the assurance that He finds pleasure in us. “For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud on their bed” (Psalm 149:4-5 NKJV)
The Psalmist knew how to construct his words in such a way as to touch the hearts of his readers. For a nation like Israel, which used to disappoint and anger God, they needed to hear that Almighty God takes pleasure in His people. God is steadfast in His love and will not be swayed by a misstep or a season of rebellion. His love for us remains even when we abandon him. “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13 NKJV). Do we feel like we have disappointed Him with the direction our life is taking? Let us take courage. If we are one of His children, He still loves us.
It is essential to know that while the Lord takes pleasure in us, He is not always satisfied with everything we do. Just as Israel angered Him, there are times when He is upset by our actions. Israel has been disciplined for its behavior, and we too can go through a season of corrections for our decisions. Let’s learn from these lessons and make the necessary changes. It will be painful at first, and the path will be difficult, but we will find that the result is much more than we imagined.
Let us read the end of Psalms 149:4: “He will beautify the humble with salvation”. Much of the pleasure that God takes in us is based on our attitude. If we are arrogant or stubborn, there will be repercussions. What the Lord expects from us is a humble attitude. Even if we don’t see Him, God can get us out of trouble just because our attitude is right. Let us remember that the love of the Lord is unshakeable, so let us remain humble.
