We love to talk alot about God’s love, peace and favour. And all of this is true! But we must not forget that we are also soldiers on a mission to destroy the works of the devil!
God is not against marriage. It was His idea! He knew that human beings need company, another human being to help them, discuss, cry, and laugh. God knew all this not only because He knows everything, but because He created us in His image, and He too needs company to share His joys, sorrows and projects.
But to have this relationship with Him, we must remove the great barrier that prevents us from being in His presence: sin. That’s why He sent His Son: to take away sin and give us access to our Father. Jesus did not come to solve our problems or to give us what we believe is lacking in our lives. Of course, by removing sin from our lives and giving us access to the great provider and infinite wisdom, many of our needs are met, and we have the solution to our problems. But we must not forget the reason for our salvation is to be reunited with God. To be saved is to have Jesus in us.
We are the body of Christ, the vehicle He wants to use today to accomplish His mission. What was Jesus’ mission? “(…) The Son of God came for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s work” (1 John 3:8b NCV). And today His mission continues through us, the sons and daughters adopted by God. At least it should continue!
It is good to reflect on what we are doing for God. Are we also destroying the works of the devil? Ask yourself, “What am I doing right now to grow the Kingdom of God?” Are we victorious warriors, or are we passive, complaining Christians, in no way threatening the enemy? Does our singleness, the way we behave, make our Father or our enemy smile proudly? Do those around us see Christ in us, in the way we deal with our loneliness and temptations? A Christian single should be different from a worldly single. “Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect” (Romans 12:2 NCV).
One of the ways to destroy the works of the enemy is by declaring the Word of God. It is the most effective weapon. Is the Word of God coming out of your mouth? Or is it defeatist words or worse, words that destroy the lives of others and create division? Sometimes even our prayer is a long, monotonous monologue! What does the Word of God say about your circumstance? That is what we must declare to enter into victory! And if you are not inspired to recite verses, sing songs to God. It is another way of declaring the goodness of God, of glorifying His name.
Let’s pray for our future marriage with faith, yes, but while waiting for the answer, let’s be active! If we are not destroying the works of the devil, we have lost our way! It’s time to become a threat to the enemy again! We are not supposed to be inactive. “Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge; and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God; … If all these things are in you and are growing, they will help you to be useful and productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But anyone who does not have these things cannot see clearly. He is blind and has forgotten that he was made clean from his past sins” (2 Peter 1:5-6, 8-9 NCV).
Let’s not be asleep or blind! Let’s go into attack mode. It’s time to destroy the works of the devil!
