Then here are some questions to discuss:
Ah … peace … What are you doing to find peace? After a very stressful day, or after several very stressful weeks !?
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:23. According to this verse, peace is more than a feeling, it is a person. God gives us peace because He is peace: He is the “God of peace”. How does knowing that peace is a person change your approach to finding peace? What can you do to find peace knowing that it is a person (God) and not just a feeling?
To have peace with God, you must first make peace WITH God. How do we go about “making peace” with God?
Read Philippians 4:7. Tell us about an experience where you felt the peace of God even though everything was chaotic around you.
Are you at peace with being single? If so, how did you get to this state? Sometimes we are at peace one day, and not at peace the next! What can bring us out of peace?
The God of peace is also the God of love. Read 1 John 4:8. What does this verse teach you?
Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. We find in this passage several characteristics of the love of God; can you name a few?
When a single person says they want to be loved … deep down, what are they really looking for?
Can marriage alone fulfill these desires, or can friendships, the family of God or even God Himself fulfill them as well?
There are of course “desires” that only marriage can fulfill, such as sex! But even so, our loving Heavenly Father can help us be patient, calm, and focus on other essential things.
In short, our need for peace, like our need for love, does not depend on anyone or anything. God is peace and God is love; spending time in His Presence gives us everything we need (Colossians 2:10).
Some prayer points to conclude:
Pray to ask the Holy Spirit to reminds us that God is our source of peace and love.
Pray that we will remain filled with peace and love.
