Then here are some questions to discuss:
Read Hebrews 11:1. This is an important verse because it explains what it is to have faith. So tell me that verse again, but in your own words. How do you explain what faith is according to this verse?
Does God give us everything we want? How do we know if what we are asking will really be answered?
The opposite of faith is doubt. One day, we are convinced that we are going to get married, we are full of confidence. And another day we are totally discouraged, desperate. What happened to make us move from one state to another?
We don’t always realize that our thoughts are going in the wrong direction. Why do we sometimes have a hard time using discernment to assess our thoughts?
In Genesis 3:11, God asks Adam “Who told you that you were naked?”. We could use the same type of question to regain control of our thoughts. For example, if we think “nobody loves me”, then we might ask “but who told you that nobody loves you?” And in this way, we confront our thoughts. Have you ever confronted your thoughts? Have you ever said to yourself “come on, why am I thinking that?” Tell us about your experience.
Read Psalms 43:5. David was speaking to his soul; he was telling it to stop being sad! What do you feel you should be saying to your heart, your emotions, your thoughts these days? What does it change in you, when you say these good words to yourself?
Why is it important to stop and analyze the direction in which our thoughts are going?
When should we take the time to analyze our thoughts? What is the sign that could encourage us to take a stop?
Sometimes it’s a friend of ours who gets caught in a bad spiral in his thoughts. Can we help someone else change their way of thinking? If yes, how; if not why?
Learning to hold our thoughts while we are single is a useful exercise that we will certainly need once we are married. What problems do you think we will avoid when we get married if we learn to filter our thoughts through Philippians 4:8?
God has given you authority over your thoughts, use it and always stay in the faith!
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask the Holy Spirit for help to filter your thoughts;
Ask God to make your faith grow by removing your doubts;
