Then here are some questions to discuss:
The first temptation is to take control of the situation. God isn’t moving fast enough, so we’re going to do it ourselves! What do you see as a problem that this can cause in your search for a partner?
It’s good to take steps to meet someone. But how do we know if we are taking steps or if we are rather taking control? And how can we protect ourselves against this temptation?
Read 1 Samuel 13: 8-14. What was Saul’s consequence for taking matters into his own hands … even though he thought he was doing the right thing? Does this story teach you anything else?
Name another area of our life where we may be tempted to take control of the situation, instead of following God.
What could be the consequences of taking control in these areas? Then read Luke 4: 8 to remember who should be in control.
The second great temptation of Christian singles … is to compromise, to lower our standards. What are the criteria that God asks to look for in a future partner?
Do you think that it is more difficult for Christians to find a partner because the selection criteria that God imposes on us are higher? And if so, how do you not get discouraged and keep these criteria?
Asaph also found that it seemed easier for the wicked (the unsaved), until he realized something. What exactly? Read Psalm 73:1 to 5, and 15 to 20.
The third temptation is to become discouraged, to let bad words invade us and gradually destroy our esteem. When you feel discouraged, what do you do, what are your tips, to restore your confidence and hope?
This discouragement not only threatens single people, but all those who hope in God for one promise or another. Is there an area in your life where you feel a little discouraged? We will pray together for this right after.
In summary, no matter what temptations come before you (because you will be tempted, one way or another), respond to them as Jesus did: with the Word. Read it and apply it; that’s what it’s here for! Oh, and by the way, Jesus was tempted because He was walking in the right direction. If you are tempted, encourage yourself, it means that you too are on the right track!
Some prayer points to conclude:
Pray for the Holy Spirit to strengthens our soul and reminds us of God’s promises in the different areas of our life;
Pray that we will remain filled with hope and confidence;
