Next, here are some questions to discuss:
What do you hear the most in your church? To wait for God to send you a partner or to take steps to meet them?
Why do we more than often hear: “Wait, God is preparing them for you”?
Maybe it is also because they don’t want Singles to run after love all the time. Song of Songs 8:4 : I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases.
Do you think that waiting for God to send someone to us is a little selfish or self-centered? Why or why not?
The vast majority of God’s promises in the Bible require action on our part. Share an example. What promises have you seen and what action was required?
Example : Romans 8:1 : There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus… (Our part = to be in Christ Jesus, the promise = no condemnation.) Try also with Philippians 4:13 or Psalms 23:1
We must include God in the choice of a partner. Why is it important to pray for our search and our future marriage?
What actions can the Holy Spirit use to inspire us to meet a special person?
What can hold us back from taking steps in meeting a future partner?
Sometimes singles say they are waiting for God, but deep down, it is because they are afraid to take steps. What kinds of fears could hold someone back?
We can also spend too much time and effort searching. What are the signs that we are overdoing our search?
What are you going to do this week to balance relying on God with seeking?
Some verses to study:
Song of Songs 8:4
Matthew 6:33
Matthew 7:7
Philippiens 4:13
Some Prayer Points to Conclude:
Pray that the Holy Spirit will help you balance waiting on God and taking steps to meet new people.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will bring to light your hidden fears and tell you how to overcome them.
Pray for your dream of marriage: that your future couples may make the Kingdom of God grow.
