Then here are some questions to discuss:
In a previous study, we talked quickly about shyness. Today we are going to develop this theme in more depth and we will find solutions to overcome shyness and develop more self-confidence.
It’s not easy to approach another single person to get to know them. Why is this intimidating? What is the most intimidating thing about this?
Other areas in our life can be just as intimidating. Which? (Professional, Church Service, etc.) And how does that compare to shyness in front of a single person? (Is it that more or less intimidating?)
Read 2 Timothy 1: 7. What are the tools you used to overcome your fears in a professional field, for example? And can you use the same tools to overcome your shyness in your approach with single people?
What do you think are the real reasons for our shyness?
Instead of dealing with the shyness problem; let’s try to sort out the real reasons behind the shyness. Go back to the reasons mentioned in question 4 and find solutions.
Behind our fear of rejection or ridicule there may be old emotional wounds. How can we heal from emotional wounds? Any testimony about that?
But behind our fear of rejection (or ridicule), pride can hide! How do we know if we have been hurt in our heart or if it is our pride that has been hurt? What is the difference between our worth and our pride? Suggested reading: Philippians 2:3.
If it is our pride that has been hurt, should we seek healing? Suggested reading: 1 Peter 5:5
We can be afraid of rejection, or afraid of being laughed at. But the fear of making mistakes can also chain us in shyness. Are you afraid of making mistakes? And do you consider that this fear is related to your pride or your esteem? And how can we overcome this fear of making mistakes? Suggested reading: James 5:16
After all we have said today, what can we do to develop more self-confidence, to let go of shyness?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit to identify when it is our pride that is hurt;
And to ask the Holy Spirit for his consolation when it is our value that has been affected;
… And of course, please pray for Passion374! Thank you!
