Then here are some questions to discuss:
When we are looking for a job, we must give employers the opportunity to find us by sending our resumes! Praying is not enough. In the same way, when we ask God for something, we must listen to his answer! How does God respond to you when you talk to him? What does your daily talk time look like, with God?
God can speak to us through our Sunday assembly, through some teaching. But are we always listening to him in these moments? What distractions do you have to struggle with most often? And what do you do to silence those distractions?
We were saying earlier that praying is not enough to get a job: you still have to present yourself to employers. Do you think the same goes for romantic relationships? Is praying for a partner enough? Why?
In the church, should it only be men approaching women? Why? Do you think Ephesians 5:23 applies only to marriage or also when finding a partner?
Many men would like a little help opening up conversations. What could women do to create opportunities? (We can consider the example of Ruth - chapter 3).
Why is it so difficult for singles to approach singles of the opposite sex in church? What could be done to change this discomfort in our interactions?
Christians are not only found in churches! Where are they and how to approach them without necessarily being in “flirt” mode?
How can practising opening conversations with other single people even help us to evangelise; to talk to unbelievers about God? Do you experience the same timidity in your approach? And if not, could your approach in one area help you in the other?
After our discussion today, what challenges will you give yourself this week to open windows of opportunity around you? In what area do you need to be bolder: professionally, spiritually (listening to God), in your relationships or for sharing your testimony?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Pray for more boldness in all areas
Pray for more openess (less shyness) in our churches
Pray for creativity for all kinds of windows of opportunity
