Then here are some questions to discuss:
There are subjects that we like more than others during our Sunday assemblies. What topics does your pastor sometimes discuss that you find more difficult and why?
Read Matthew 16:24. The message of salvation presented in our churches is often very “positive”, we talk a lot about the love of God for us, manifested by Jesus on the cross. But we speak less often of the suffering and the difficulties that we will encounter once converted. Do you think new believers should be warned that their decision will not always be easy?
Did you personally experience great difficulties during your conversion? How have you kept your faith through these difficulties?
Read Acts 21:10-13. If you were Paul in this story, would you have done like him? How would you have reacted if a prophet told you that you were going to suffer for Christ?
When we apply for a position or a new job, we don’t always take the time to think about all the challenges that this new position might cause us. What challenges are you currently experiencing at your work that you wish you had known about before applying for your current job?
Are you the type of person who prefers to know about challenges ahead of time, or do you prefer not to know about them to keep a positive attitude?
Read Luke 14:28. Of the singles here who would like to be in a relationship (because it’s also fine to be single), do you have an idyllic vision of marriage or are you pretty well aware of the challenges (and pain) that come with the ring?
Read Mark 10:29-30. Do you like this verse: receiving blessings, but with persecutions?
How can we not become pessimistic and depressed looking at our future? Read Hebrews 11:26.
Some prayer points to conclude:
Pray to keep looking in the Spirit, to our reward, instead of the challenges
Pray for those who are shaken in their faith because of challenges
