Then here are some questions to discuss:
The word “honour” is mentioned more than a hundred times in the Bible. It asks to honor God first, of course, but also all kinds of other people. So what does it mean to honor?
According to Bible dictionaries, to give honor means to give importance to a person or concept. It is seeing that person or concept as valuable to us. So it can vary widely from person to person. Name a thing or concept to which you attach a lot of value, importance, while others around you do not really pay attention to it. Does this irritate you?
Read Proverbs 3:9. According to this verse, how can we honor God? Why is giving money a way to honor God?
When we place high importance on a person or concept, we take care of it. Caring is another synonym for honoring. How can we “take care” of God?
Read John 9:31. According to this verse, there are benefits to honoring God. Why is honoring God related to having our prayers answered? What is the relationship between the two?
It is not only God who must be honored, according to the Bible. Read Ephesians 6:2. How can we honor our parents? How do we honor our parents if they have been abusive or absent?
Read 1 Timothy 6:1. How should we honor our authorities? Should we also honor authorities who do not believe in God? If yes, how?
Read 1 Peter 2:17. This verse says that we are to honor…everyone! It’s easy to love kind people, but how do you honor those who are irritating?
It’s not just people we should honor. Read Hebrews 13:4. Based on the definitions we have mentioned so far, how can we honor marriage (give value, care)?
The preceding verse says that “all” must honor marriage. How can someone Single honor the sacrament of marriage?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask the Holy Spirit for help to honor God, our parents, the authorities, our entourage and marriage
