Then here are some questions to discuss:
Tell us about when you were saved. What change has your salvation made in your life?
Our salvation brings us beautiful blessings, but also brings us some feeling of discomfort in the face of sin. Have you ever felt the feeling of “I believe I shouldn’t do this or that”, even though the Bible didn’t clearly say it like that. And did you obey that little voice?
Read 1 John 3:9Sometimes we try to negotiate with this voice. Have you ever done that? Tell us about such a situation and who won the “negotiation”, and what were the consequences?
Read Genesis 3:1-6As single people, what are the most common “negotiations” you have with God?
By not listening to that soft little voice, we end up not hearing it at all. And sin will seem quite normal, legitimate, and inconsequential. Have you (or someone you know) ever been in this state, and how did you come back to God (or how did the person you know came back to God)?
Remember the story of the prodigal son - or read Luke 15:11-24.Sometimes, to convince us of sin, the enemy can even use verses from the Bible: taken out of context. Do you know of any verses that are often thrown out of context in social media or churches? Any examples that make you roll your eyes?
It’s what satan did: Luke 4:9-11God has given us the freedom to choose: which means we also have the freedom to make bad decisions, to sin. What can we do to help us make our choices, to listen more to God than to our reasoning?
Read John 16:8Sometimes the arguments, the reasoning, come from those around us. We feel that we have to do this or that for God and those around us disagree or find that we are exaggerating. How to deal with criticism from those around us?
Sometimes if we do not listen to God we suffer consequences. But if we listen to God, nothing happens, and then it is difficult to realize that God has protected us. When nothing is happening, how do we know if we have made the right decision?
What if we are wrong? What if we think that God wanted us to do this or that, and ultimately realize that it was not God at all … what do you think are the consequences of that?
Read 1 John 3:20 and Romans 8:28
So logically we realize that it is better to follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. Let’s not negotiate too much with that little voice. This may be the only way to keep us in holiness.
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask God for forgiveness for our negotiations!
And ask the Holy Spirit to assist us in obedience.
