Then here are some questions to discuss:
Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The Bible is a time when God speaks to us. Tell us about your little daily reading ritual. Are you more of a morning person? Do you read with a notebook next to it? Do you prefer to “listen” to the Bible?
Do you use Bible reference books to read the Bible? Bible dictionaries perhaps? Give us your references, to inspire us to study the Word.
Let’s take a verse right away and study it word by word. Read Philippians 4:13 : “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (NASB). And let each person in the group say what each word of the verse teaches them. For example: “I”… this teaches me that I, with my faults and despite my errors, “me”, I can still do everything thanks to God.” Go through each word, one by one, and say what each word teaches you.
In the previous verse it is written that the Bible can correct us, convince us. What verse has ever convinced you to change one of your behaviors, or what verse has freed you from a bad habit? Was this difficult to take?
Some words stand out in the Bible, as if this verse were written in bold letters! These are real revelations to us (and sometimes not a revelation to others!). What is your favorite verse, the one that has encouraged you the most in your Christian life?
Read John 15:7. God’s promises help us to overturn doubts, to fight worry, to stand firm in our faith. This helps us get a picture of our victory. This is why it is good to use verses in our prayer time. What verse do you often use in your times of prayer? (and if you don’t already, take note of other people’s verses to help you use them next time!)
Let’s help each other… Go around the table and mention a need of yours (or the need of someone you know) and have another person in the group find a verse that meets that need.
For those here who want to get married, what verse was a confirmation for you that this was also God’s will for your life? Why is it important to remind yourself of this promise regularly?
Read Matthew 6:7. We sometimes have good times of prayer, and sometimes, let’s face it, we pray a little without really thinking about what we are saying. These are empty words. What can we do when we realize that our prayer life, or our Bible reading life, has become a little dull, boring?
It’s so inspiring to share our ideas and favorite verses. What will you change or add to your daily reading based on what someone else in the group mentioned today?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you read your Bible more effectively;
Let us lift up the needs mentioned this evening to God using the verses mentioned;
… And of course, please pray for Passion374! Thank you!
