Then here are some questions to discuss:
We are going to talk about beauty today. Do you find yourself beautiful? Have you ever doubted it? And if so, what have you done to appreciate your beauty? (If this is still a challenge, listen to the advice of others for inspiration!)
Our way of saying if we are beautiful or not is sometimes by comparing ourselves to others. What is good and what is bad about comparing ourselves to others?
Read Matthew 19:19. The verse says to love our neighbor as ourselves. Would you say that you love yourself as much as you love your children, your friends? Or do you love yourself more or less? Is it difficult for you to love yourself as much as you love others?
Does God find us beautiful? Do you know of any passages in the Bible that talk about how God sees you? (There is Psalm 139:14, 1 Peter 3:3-4, Ecclesiastes 3:11, Zephaniah 3:17) And how should it change the way we look at ourselves if we know that God thinks we are beautiful?
When we start to find ourselves beautiful, it increases our self-confidence. Why is it easy for children to see themselves as beautiful in a mirror, but we can’t?
Besides, we don’t take care of what we don’t value. Do you think you take enough care of your appearance? Do you value your appearance? If yes why, if no why?
When you see someone who doesn’t take care of their appearance, what does that tell you about that person? What do you think of a person who, on the other hand, takes great care to “look good”?
Beauty isn’t just in our physical appearance. What other aspects of a person’s life make them “beautiful”? (important points to consider to know what we should value!)
Read Proverbs 31:30. Should a Christian consider the “beauty” of another single Christian when he or she is looking for a partner? Or if the spiritual aspect should be the only criterion?
Can our care for our appearance influence our testimony? (Read Genesis 41:14) When we want to tell unbelievers about Jesus, should our appearance be neat? Why?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Take the time to thank God for the wonderful creature that we are;
Ask for the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to care for the temple that God has given us;
… And of course, please pray for Passion374! Thank you!
