Then here are some questions to discuss:
Read Romans 3:23 and John 14:6. We lived in sin and accepted Jesus as our Savior. That’s salvation. Let’s go around the table and tell us the testimony of your salvation. Tell us what you were like before your salvation and how you gave your life to God.
If we know that sin is what separated us from God, what still separates us from God, why is sin so tempting?
Read 1 Samuel 15:22. Imagine someone who would say: “Meh, I can give in to temptation and do a sin now, because I will only have to ask for forgiveness later and do some good works!” What would you say to this person?
What is the difference between apologising and asking for forgiveness? What is the hardest thing to do and why?
In Genesis 3 we read the story of the first sin. What changed in the relationship between God and the couple Adam and Eve after the sin? When you fall, when you disobey God, do you also have difficulty approaching God? How do you overcome the desire to hide?
Why is repentance essential in our relationship with God? Do you always take the time to repent before bringing your needs to God? And if not, why don’t you do it?
Repentance is a good way to restore our relationship with God. But there is more. The time of praise before teaching on Sunday morning is a good time to rekindle our love for God. We then sing beautiful compliments to him… unless we get distracted and sing without really thinking about what we are saying. Are you usually distracted during worship? How do you focus on Jesus, the one who is (should be!) the subject of your affection?
God has angels singing worship songs to Him at all times, why does He need our worship?
What is the difference between a religion and a relationship with God? How can our relationship with God become a simple religion?
Do you think it is easier for someone Single to have a good relationship with God than a married person? Why?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask God for forgiveness for sometimes ignoring the invitation of the Holy Spirit to take time with Him.
Ask for help from the Holy Spirit to strengthen your relationship with God.
