Then here are some questions to discuss:
What promise from God has already come true in your life? Or what prayer have you prayed based on a verse and was answered?
Which promises are the most reliable: those that God makes or those that we make? And why can we trust it more?
Why is it important to keep your promises? What are the consequences of breaking a promise?
For it to be a promise, does our declaration absolutely have to contain the expression “I promise you”? What other kinds of statements can we make that are actually another form of promises we should keep?
Read Matthew 5:37. In this week’s video, we first talked about keeping the promises we make to others. Have you ever made a promise that you later regretted? What did you learn from this experience?
What should we do when we realise that we have not kept our promise to someone else? For example, if we promised to help someone and we didn’t do it. How can we rebuild trust after breaking a promise?
In the video, it was also about the promises we make to ourselves. Give us examples of promises we make to ourselves. And why is it generally difficult to keep these promises?
Read Matthew 21:28 to 31. Is it better to never promise anything?
Read Deuteronomy 23:21 and Matthew 5:33. Give us examples of promises we make to God. Do we really take the consequences of not keeping our promises to God seriously? Can God’s grace make someone less likely to keep their promises?
What strategies can help us keep our promises even in the face of challenges?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Thank God for the promises He has kept;
Ask God to help us keep our promises;
… And of course, please pray for Passion374! Thank you!
