Then here are some questions to discuss:
Before we talk about making the first move online, let’s talk about… making the first move!
1-You’ve met a great single person and you’d like to get to know them better. This person has even made your heart skip a beat. So you need to find a way to see them again. Do you find it difficult to do this? How can we show our interest without seeming too interested?
2-Can women make the first move? (We’re not talking about flirting here, but just trying to develop a friendship with a handsome stranger.)
3-When a single person starts to make our heart skip a beat, we shouldn’t wait to start developing a friendship. What are the dangers of waiting too long to take steps to get to know the person?
4-Read Proverbs 4:23 and Song of Solomon 8:4. Why is it important to guard our hearts, to hold back our thoughts, when we take the first steps towards developing a friendship? How can we hold back the beating of our hearts?
5-Before taking the first steps towards an attractive person, it is good to search our hearts to see if we are attracted to this person for the right reasons. What would be the good and also the bad reasons to be attracted to someone?
6-Is there a difference between taking the first steps towards an interesting person that we meet at church, or if we meet them at a singles activity, or at our work, or even at the gym or at the grocery store?
7-Now, what about the first steps on the Internet? For example, you come across the profile of an interesting person on your social networks. What do you do to show your interest without seeming out of place?
8-Is there a difference between making the first steps “in the real world” and making the first steps on the Internet? (We are still talking about making the first steps in developing a friendship, and not about flirting sensually.)
9-Whether in the real world or online, what are you going to do if a person asks you “to go for coffee”, but you have no real interest in developing a friendship with this person?
10-In the opposite situation, if you ask a charming person “to go for coffee” and the person answers “no, thank you”, how are you going to react? Is the feeling of rejection less important because we were not even friends yet?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Ask the Holy Spirit to give us the courage to take the first steps.
Pray for healing from all rejections experienced in our time of searching.
