Then here are some questions to discuss:
Read Matthew 26:40. In what tone do you think Jesus spoke these words to his disciples? What would he have liked his disciples to do? And why did the Son of God expect this from his disciples?
Do you think Jesus still needs us to comfort him, to support him? What do you think Jesus needs from us today?
Many singles say that they want to get married because they want to come home at the end of their day at work and have someone to share their experiences with. If we have this need to spend time with someone, to share our challenges and joys, do you think it is the same with the Holy Spirit? Have you ever imagined that the Holy Spirit would like to tell you about His day? What might He want to tell you?
What are the challenges of the Holy Spirit? Does God have sorrows to share? Have you ever thought about that? How might thinking about God’s heart change your daily devotions?
According to these verses, what can God do in our lives when we spend time with Him? 2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 119:105, Matthew 11:29, 1 Peter 5:7, Ephesians 6:11, Matthew 6:13, Matthew 10:19, Exodus 31:3
We can be with a friend and be distracted while the person is speaking to us. If we can be distracted with someone physically present, of course it is even easier to be distracted with a God who is not physically present! How do you stay focused on God when you spend time with Him?
Read Psalm 139:1-10. Have you ever felt like God was “pursuing” you? What made you feel that way, and how did you respond to it?
Sometimes praying and reading our Bibles can become an obligation, instead of a passion. How do we get to that point? How can our relationship with God become just a boring obligation?
As singles, what are the benefits of listening to God’s heart? Could the way we “treat” God influence the way we treat our future husband or wife?
After our discussion today, what will change in your relationship with God? Or what will you protect in your relationship with God if you felt it was already at its best?
Some prayer points to conclude:
Make a commitment to listen to the heart of Jesus, to let Him speak to us about His day.
Ask God to give us back the passion of our relationship with God, or to protect it if we believe with a good relationship with God at this time.
